We have been discussing new rules for

1. applications
2. members
3. admins

during the last weeks. Since we have a lot of polls lately (not always on subjects that are as important as this...), I will put the new rules into one poll altogether.

Whoever didn´t have a chance to participate in the discussions may inform himself here:

Recruiting rules

To become a full member of SiG, any applicant has to pass two stages:

1. Prospect

  • First the applicant has to file an application according to the SiG application form.
  • The applicant must declare his correct in game name and UID number. If he uses a fake number for his application, it will be nullified.
  • The applicant must declare his home country and his age. The minimum age for a clan applicantion is 16. An exeption can be made, if the applicant is at least 14 years old and has two full members vouch that he is mature enough. A false declaration of age nullifies the application.
  • After the application has been filed, the in game name and UID are checked against the clans database of bans and complaints.
  • If no complaint has been filed before and no ban is valid against the applicant, he is then admitted as prospect. He is allowed to have the prospect clan tag [SiG-P] added to his username.

2. Full member

  • In the following four weeks the prospect has to prove his worth.
  • Any violation of rules that leads to a yellow warning for full members nullifies the application.
  • After four weeks, the applicant can claim his promotion to full member, if he gets two full members to vouch for him.
  • The recruiting officer or his assistant then announces the pending promotion to all full member of the clan. Every full member has the chance to file an objection then for one week.
  • If there are no justified objections, the prospect is admitted as full member.
  • The full member status gives access to the member servers, to the ranks as stated in the rank regulations and allows to have the member clan tag [SiG] added to the username.

Member rules

  • These rules apply to prospects as well as full members.
  • All members have to abide the general server rules as a matter of course.
  • All members have to be connected to TeamSpeak server during the time playing unless there is a convincing reason.
  • All members have to have their clan tag on while playing.
  • All members ought to be respectful to fellow players, not only members but non members too. They have to respected as our guests. Members are therefore expected to be friendly and also helpful if needed. Members must be aware that they are representatives of the clan and behave accordingly.
  • All members have to read up on any clan news on a regular basis and should take part in ongoing discussions and give their vote in polls.
  • Donations are vital for the clan activities, but not mandatory.
  • All members are representatives of this clan once playing on other clan servers using their SiG-Tags and therefore have to behave themselves.

Complaints

  • Every member who has a complaint against another member must not announce it publicly but write a private message to a member of the Provost Marshall Office (currently responsible: Dogma).
  • The Provost Marshall Office will then investigate the facts and try to settle the dispute.
  • If this is not possible and there is enough evidence, the Provost Marshall Office will formally file the complaint to the Clan Committee.
  • The Clan Committee consists of five elected members and is solitary responsible for any sanctions against members of the clan.
  • The defendant can choose a member of confidence who can speak to the Clan Committee for him.
  • As any misbehaviour on other clan servers while wearing a SiG-Tag will effect the clan as a whole and so the clan carriers too, reports from other clans for any form of misbehaviour reguardless of rank will be handled by the clan leaders directly.

Admin rules

The Admin role is most important for the joy of the game.

1. Admins have to ensure all of the server rules are being followed and everything is in order.

The following violations are considered as serious and the player in question has to be kicked immediately:

• Racist comments or direct insults towards other players
• The use of hacks, glitches or scripts in order to mainpulate the game

The following violations are considered serious too, but as such things can also happen accidently, there has to be a questioning and a warning first:

• Destroying base structures/assets on purpose
• Team killing
• The use of invalid player names
• Messing around with aircraft or other precious assets.

All serious offences have to be documentated with player name, time and UID, so the player in question can be banned.
Minor violations should be mentioned, but not punished without an additional valid reason.

2. If the server has to be restarted, admins have to ask their fellow players in TS and in game chat if they have any objections first.

3. Admins have to allways keep in mind: The admin role is not intended to boost someones ego! We want to attract new players, not to repel them. As it is understood that admins have to remain respectful to fellow members and must not throw around insults or use vulgar language, they have to understand that non members have to be treated with respect even more and given help when needed. On the other hand, admins are not intended to argue - they have to decide!

Earlier yesterday Vanya & I found out the reason why sometimes you connect and spawn as a bird.

When a mission is restarted via the server controls in game, you often get doppelgangers (AI versions of players that have their names) when you connect to a slot that the doppelganger had previously occupied you become a bird as the program thinks the slot is taken.

So when you need to restart a game choose Reassign instead of restart.

Please make sure you pass this on to all light & super Admins.

We now have an effective method for routing out hackers, both of these planks wreaked havoc on the base & I suspect that they are also responsible for the 'Twin Towers' sick joke.

18:50:31 Player Addy connected (id=3739526).name changed ZWIERZAK_POLAND, Jamie, Trial, Giorinex, Double Whopper W/Cheese, josef97, Viking Red, user ,adam ,yasin, GIN, Youri ,Rodrigo
(13 names in total!)

21:13:00 Player Mark12rus connected (id=1658052) aka fra765, Faustpatrone, WIN, Admin, User, Ростислав, Ñåðãåé
,FJ ,Verse, PLAYER 1, IGOR, Ivan, JaBo-109, Àëåêñåé, WOLF, Mark12rus,
(18 names in total!!)

This marks a decisive victory against people like this who have less that 3 friends on Facebook.

We have a new 20 slot server!

At the moment it's running Takistan Force (mission still needs work) and is for members only (password g )

To find it just put sigclan into the filter & remember to include password protected servers in your search.

Server is kindly hosted free of charge by GNL Solutions.

Stewards of military simulation (and makers of the best emergent gameplay anywhere, if you ask me) Bohemia Interactive have outlined their plans for Arma 3 in 2012.

Bohemia wants to get early feedback on the game to assure a smooth release. That’s deeply reassuring. An Arma 3 “Community Alpha” will release sometime after E3 in June to facilitate this. Read on for more information about the alpha, mention of new features, brand new screenshots, and a Q&A with two of the devs about Arma 3 in 2012.

The big blog update, typed by Project Lead Daniel Musil (also interviewed below, with Creative Director Jay Crowe) expresses Bohemia’s development priorities and reiterates some features they’re particularly excited about. That includes “completely new” motion-captured animations, which Bohemia says will result in new gameplay features (I’d be very happy if that meant military hand signals were being added). Bohemia reiterates that DirectX 10/11 is implemented and working, that A3 will integrate fixes introduced in Arma 2 1.60, and that Limnos will be the biggest map in the series. One of the new screens also shows working, reflective mirrors on vehicles as well as an in-vehicle video feed—both of which should make a first-person perspective while driving more viable.

Q&A
PCG: When will the Community Alpha be available?

Daniel Musil, A3 Project Lead: The exact date will be announced following E3, but it should follow a month or so later. It depends on a number of internal and external developments.
Jay Crowe, Creative Director: Once we manage to shake off the jet-lag from LA—wash off that conference-hall smell—we intend to set out what’s on offer and how we’ll be inviting people to get involved in much greater detail.

How many people do you expect to participate in the Community Alpha?

Jay Crowe, Creative Director: Well, we’re talking about an alpha build of the game. We accept that it’s not something that those with only a passing interest would get involved in. Rather, we’d expect that our community will be the driving force behind this initial offering, at least.

Musil: We have no limits, though – anyone interested is welcome! This will be an iterative process and we will appreciate any proper feedback. If we took a guess, there could be thousands.

Crowe: You only need to look at the success and popularity of similar alpha releases to see that, if it begins to gain momentum, such previews can generate large numbers of really passionate players.

During the Community Alpha, what aspects of the game is Bohemia going to be most interested in receiving feedback on?

Musil: We’re especially interested in the new technologies running on the broad range of hardware out there. In regard to our large, open world there is always lots of aspects to tune. Also, the new scripting frameworks are very flexible but relatively new.

Crowe: Yes, a very recent beta patch for Take On Helicopters added support for Java in the RV engine. Long term, its being considered as a replacement for our proprietary scripting language, but—at least for TKOH and A3—they’ll operate side by side. We hope that once the Community Alpha is in place, modders will be able to explore the possibilities – and identify any pesky limitations – of this exciting new feature.

Musil: Overall, we’d expect quite general feedback to the game, which we’ll then evaluate and seek to shape it up alongside our customers needs.

Crowe: Although we can get into details later, one option is to stagger the release of new engine features. In this way, we might focus upon a particular aspect and garner useful feedback. For example, one week after the Community Alpha launch, we might drop in the scuba guys or enable physics on vehicles, listening carefully to the feedback on how these systems perform.

Musil: We’re not seeking overly specific feedback—I mean a missing screw here and there, it’s fundamentally our job to retain the quality of our game – the goal is to identify and neutralise important stability issues, across the big range of hardware combinations our there.

The blog post references a delay. Are you delaying Arma 3 further than Holiday 2012?

Crowe: Yes, we’ve pushed back our full release, which originally stood as Summer 2012. Although, with the Community Alpha, many people will still get to enjoy their first experience with a playable build of Arma 3 very soon. This iterative model of development—sharing a public preview build—is becoming more and more widespread on the indie scene. Arma 3 is a big game. It’s packed with a lot of complex new features. This Community Preview enables us, as a relatively small team, to spend more time polishing and improving it ahead of a full, retail launch. Take On Helicopters was a step in the right direction, but, we can always do more to improve day one stability.

Does Bohemia believe that Arma 3 will be one of the PC’s most-demanding games when it releases? Are you worried about that?

Musil: We consider the Real Virtuality engine to be more like a platform than a game. Our community has used it for a much longer period than is perhaps usual for the most modern games. It’s why we’re scaling the rendering quality and the whole engine to fit both current machines and also high-end desktops in the near feature. At higher settings, there is usually more to compute and render—longer view distance, better quality further in the scene, denser and more extensive particles, multiple shader-based effects, and so on. Generally, we would like to allow users to always set the best quality regardless of hardware performance, which we achieve with our powerful range of video options.

What’s a weapon or vehicle in A3 that’s exciting to you right now?

Musil: For me, it’s the Gepárd GM-6 Lynx. An impressive and modern anti-material weapon we had a chance to try ourselves. Makes me respect it both visually and when putting fire down-range. There will be another devlog about this recording, including some behind the scenes stuff.

Crowe: Well, I might just be a little biased from the last project, but right now it’s the Mi-48 Helicopter Gunship. Our community christened it the “Hamok.” It’s big and it’s ugly and it’s all the better for that!

Musil: Honestly, though—although it might sound a little staged—the best weapon for me is new lighting model, which I like very much personally. Visually, it’s a big step up from our previous games. I hope this weapon will be great help for promoting our game.

Version 2.60zc (we use 2.60m) has been released & comes with several new additions & fixes!

Not to mention the fact that it supports the recent 1.60 patch.

A common problem we encounter is disappearing capture points at the AO, this requires a server restart to fix, this is now fixed!

Also fixed are the reload problems with helicopters (we could see the Wildcat return!)

In short I will have to rebuild our unique version of Domination from the ground up! I'm estimating it will take 4-5 weeks to complete the project, but i think you'll agree it will be worth it!
